Audi India introduces the new Audi Q7 3.0 TFSI with 8-speed automatic transmission

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Mumbai: Audi, the German luxury car manufacturer, today announced the launch of the Audi Q7 3.0 TFSI quattro - the latest engine variant of the largest selling luxury SUV in India. Deliveries of the new Audi Q7 3.0 TFSI are slated to begin in January 2011.

“The Audi Q7 - the high performance luxury SUV has been one of the main contributors to our success in the Indian market. Reflecting the core essence of our brand DNA, ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’, the Audi Q7 now demonstrates even greater efficiency, with a new engine, a new transmission and a whole series of new performance characteristics. We are confident that it will further help us consolidate our leadership position in the luxury SUV space“, said Mr. Michael Perschke, Head – Audi India.

The Audi Q7 is the large Audi for sporty individualists, for people who are seeking a vehicle that will take them anywhere they want to go for sports, recreation and business. It has been the market leader in its segment for the past three consecutive years.

The 3.0 TFSI quattro engine delivers 245 kW (333 hp) and achieves maximum torque of 440 Nm between 2,900 and 5,300 rpm. This V6 with an engine displacement of 2,995 cc accelerates the Audi Q7 from a standing start to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds with a top speed of 245 km/h, resulting in a dynamic and enthralling driving experience.

The Audi Q7 3.0 TFSI employs TFSI technology for the first time and combines supercharging of the engine with petrol direct injection. The compressor provides for top-class performance characteristics on the new 3.0 TFSI quattro engine with high torque at low engine speeds, resulting in an extremely spontaneous response and exceptional power development across the entire speed range.

Australia participates in Toyota’s Global Trial

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Toyota announced today Australia will participate in a global trial of plug-in hybrid concept cars based on the petrol-electric Prius.

The plug-in hybrid vehicles, equipped with lithium-ion batteries, will be shared with local partners drawn from government and business.

20100928

Toyota Australia senior executive director sales and marketing David Buttner said five vehicles have been allocated for the local program.

Mr Buttner said partners would be chosen based on their commitment to the technology, their ability to provide feedback and their geographic area.

He said the program would provide data for Toyota and for users about the benefits and the challenges involved in the electrification of vehicles, including the overall performance of first-generation lithium-ion batteries.

“The trial will allow Toyota and its end-user partners to gather real-world information to better understand expectations for plug-in technology,” Mr Buttner said.

The global trial involves approximately 600 cars, which have been allocated to select demonstration cities around the world.

The global trial includes Japan, the United States, the UK, European countries including France, along with countries such as Canada and New Zealand.

Kia Motors focuses on style and technology at Paris Show

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

SEOUL - Kia’s 2010 Paris Motor Show stand will major on striking design and new technologies. Taking centre stage and making its world premiere will be the eye-catching, compact and unique electric POP concept, designed by Kia’s European design team under the direction of Peter Schreyer, Kia’s Chief Design Officer, and Gregory Guillaume, Kia Europe’s Chief Designer.

“A concept car like the POP could only have come from us,” explains Gregory Guillaume. “Designers very rarely have the opportunity to start from a clean sheet of paper and it’s great to be in a position to operate with such freedom.”

Kia+POP+Concept+(1)

In addition to POP, Kia will also be displaying a number of striking production models which reinforce the company’s commitment to developing its design language ? and putting this into practice with real-world models.

Chief among these will be an all-new D-segment contender called Kia Optima. The new model will make its European debut at the Paris Motor Show before going on sale in select European countries this year. Sales in Western Europe will commence in 2011.

Embodying what Peter Schreyer calls “a bold, athletic and visual sporting energy”, which is carried through from the exterior to the car’s involving driving dynamics, Kia Optima is expected to significantly grow Kia’s market share in the D-segment.

The stylish sedan is longer, lower, wider and has a longer wheelbase than any previous D-segment offering from Kia. It will be available in Europe with a host of high-technology features and with a choice of either a new ‘U2’ 1.7-litre VGT diesel engine (136 ps*) or an all-new technically-advanced ‘Nu’ 2.0-litre CVVL (continuously variable valve lift) gasoline engine (170 ps*).

The second of Kia’s design-led production models at Paris will be the stunning new Kia Sportage compact SUV, which has received praise from media and public alike since launch. New Sportage will soon be available with two additional engine options ? both smaller capacity, fitted with fuel-stretching technology and mated exclusively to 2WD drivetrains and six-speed manual transmissions ? to offer even greater efficiency.

Demonstrating Kia’s ongoing commitment to minimising its vehicles’ impact on the environment, the manufacturer’s Paris stand will also feature a number of ‘green’ models. The three environmentally-focused vehicles ? Kia cee’d and Venga low emissions models, and an innovative mild hybrid Kia Sportage concept ? have an average tailpipe CO2 figure of just 108 g/km and will be displayed in a distinct ‘green zone’ on the stand.

Gov. Rell, Cl&P Welcome Nissan Leaf All-Electric Car To Connecticut

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

HARTFORD - Signaling the state’s readiness for environmentally clean transportation, Governor M. Jodi Rell today welcomed the all-electric Nissan LEAF to Connecticut with the signing of a collaborative agreement to help advance electric vehicles in the state.

With Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) President Jeff Butler and representatives of Nissan North America on hand at a ceremony at the Connecticut Science Center, Rell lauded the launch of Nissan’s battery-powered car. The Nissan LEAF goes on sale in limited markets in December and will be available nationwide some time in 2011.

“The inclusion of Connecticut in the launch of the Nissan LEAF recognizes our commitment to clean energy and the culmination of our work to prepare the state for the next generation of electric vehicles,” said Gov. Rell.

As a member of the Governor’s Electric Vehicles Infrastructure Council, CL&P has been studying and testing charging infrastructure and encouraging automakers to include Connecticut in their electric vehicle launch plans.

“With electric vehicles, our existing electric system offers our customers an alternative fuel source for a more sustainable transportation solution,” said CL&P President Jeff Butler.

“Nissan is a leader in electric vehicles, and the state of Connecticut has shown similar leadership through its progressive policies and focus on clean energy,” said Tracy Woodard, director of government affairs, Nissan North America. “Nissan and the state will work together to help Connecticut be ready for electric vehicles and the 2011 introduction of the Nissan LEAF to the region.”

The Nissan LEAF is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack instead of an internal combustion engine. There are no tailpipe emissions, and the vehicle can get up to 100 miles on a single battery charge for far less than the cost of gasoline.

Renault-Nissan Alliance Signs Zero-Emission Vehicle Partnership With City Of Toronto

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

Mississauga - The Renault–Nissan Alliance today announced that Nissan is entering into an agreement with the City of Toronto, to advance zero-emission mobility in the city. The two parties announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at Toronto’s City Hall, as a commitment to collaborate to promote the wide-spread adoption of electric vehicles.

“Nissan is a global leader in electric vehicles and today the City of Toronto has shown its leadership and commitment to create a zero-emission culture in this great city,” said Allen Childs, President, Nissan Canada Inc. “Through this agreement, our partners at the City of Toronto have further demonstrated their commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We look forward to bringing the Nissan LEAF, the first affordable, mass market zero-emission vehicle to Toronto consumers before the end of next year.”

As part of the agreement, Nissan and the City of Toronto will collaborate to promote electric vehicles on Toronto’s streets. Nissan will supply electric vehicles for purchase within the city. The City of Toronto will continue with its existing efforts to develop plans to promote a charging infrastructure for EVs, as well as the deployment, operation and maintenance of a charging network, in concert with other relevant parties. The City will also continue to consider regulatory programs and bylaw changes to support the introduction and use of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs).

“Electric vehicles are a great way to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and smog pollutants in Toronto. We look forward to working with our partners to promote EVs and charging infrastructure in the city,” said Toronto Mayor David Miller. “The City of Toronto has taken significant steps to green its corporate vehicles through a comprehensive Green Fleet Plan, and we look forward to adding all-electric vehicles to our fleet. Toronto is also a member of the C40 Electric Vehicle Network where 14 of the world’s largest cities have agreed to take action to make their cities electric vehicle friendly. By working with partners such as Nissan, we are getting closer and closer to making electric vehicles a reality in everyday life.”

Nissan, along with its alliance partner Renault, is the only automaker committed to making affordable, all-electric vehicles available to the mass market globally. Nissan LEAF is a five-passenger compact electric car that uses no gas, creates no emissions and has no tailpipe. It has a top speed of 145 km/hour and is powered by advanced lithium-ion batteries, which provide the car with a range of 160 kilometers on a single charge, as tested on the LA4 test cycle, enough to satisfy the daily driving needs of more than 70 percent of Canadians.

Nissan Reaches 20,000-Reservation Milestone For Nissan Leaf; First Phase Of Customer Reservations Completed

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

FRANKLIN - Consumer interest for the Nissan LEAF continues to grow, as Nissan North America Inc. today marks its 20,000th reservation for the 100-percent electric car.

Nissan had anticipated reaching its stated target of 20,000 reservations at the time of the first U.S. Nissan LEAF delivery, in December. This achievement comes three months ahead of schedule and just days before Nissan kicks off the “Drive Electric Tour.” The 23-city tour will give reservation holders and those interested in driving a Nissan LEAF a chance to experience all-electric driving firsthand.

Achieving 20,000 reservations marks the successful completion of the first phase of the Nissan LEAF rollout, which began more than five months ago, and no further reservations will be taken until next year. Nissan now is focusing on providing the best level of customer service and premium ownership experience to those who already have enrolled. A subsequent phase of reservations will begin next year, after current reservations and orders have been processed.

Consumers who already have made reservations will continue to have the opportunity to purchase or lease an all-electric Nissan LEAF. Nissan is following its planned order-release timing for existing reservationists. Orders have been prioritized based on market timing and when consumers submitted their original reservations online and paid their refundable $99 reservation fee.

Honda Jazz Hybrid - Fully Flexible

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

The world debut of the Jazz Hybrid at the Paris motor show will offer the first opportunity to see that Honda has added IMA hybrid technology to the innovative hatchback while still retaining the flexibility of its unique folding Magic Seats.

01 sImportantly in the Jazz Hybrid the integration of the hybrid system into the car has not diminished the interior space, with the boot floor remaining at the same level as the current 1.2 and 1.4 Jazz models. The IMA battery pack and power control unit have been integrated in the area under the boot floor, keeping the normal boot (above floor) area of 300 litres and allowing the Magic Seats to fold in the same manner as non-hybrid versions. This means that the seats still fold entirely flat to provide a surprising large boot space of 831 litres or the seat bases can be folded to sit vertically to accommodate tall items within the car.

The IMA hybrid motor and control system are shared with the Insight and CR-Z hybrids, taking advantage of the proven reliability of this important technology. With almost two decades of development and 10 years of sales behind it, the Honda IMA system has proven itself to be a flexible and dependable technology, with over half a million vehicles on the road benefitting from its combination of low emissions and fuel economy.

Audi MedCup sails into an exciting future

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

INGOLSTADT, Germany - The 2010 season of the Audi MedCup culminated in a thrilling finale on the coast of Sardinia. Emirates Team New Zealand won the “Champions League” of sailing yet again. Good news for all fans of thrilling, high-caliber sailing: Audi has extended its title sponsoring commitment by another three years.

After five thrilling regattas in Europe’s most attractive sailing areas the largest amount of champagne was again poured on the boat designated as number one: by clinching third place, Emirates Team New Zealand defended its title in the world’s most popular regatta series. Whereas the crew around skipper Dean Barker had dominated the Audi MedCup last year with four victories, the 2010 season saw a thrilling competition for the top all the way up to the last round of the year. Besides Emirates Team in the TP52 class, the crew of the Madrid-Caser Seguros boat claimed the title in the slightly smaller GP42 category.

Audi is extending its title sponsoring commitment by three years. “The series is becoming increasingly attractive due to some fine tuning of the regulations and innovative ideas such as live reports on the internet or a customer on board as a 13th hand,” says Lothar Korn, Head of Marketing Communications of the AUDI AG. “The MedCup provides an outstanding international stage for presenting the Audi brand in a first-class environment.”

A more than respectable debut was made by the Franco-German boat “Audi A1 powered by ALL4ONE” in the past season. Right in its first year, the boat with the two renowned sailors Jochen Schümann and Stéphane Kandler at the helm clinched several podium finishes and occupiedseventh place in the largest TP52 class after the finale. The own boat marked by the Four Rings is just one element of Audi’s extensive commitment: in addition to its role of title sponsor, the automobile manufacturer based in Ingolstadt shapes the visual design of the series, provides hospitality services and equips the complete shuttle fleet with current models at each event.

Audi comeback in the USA

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

INGOLSTADT, Germany - After an almost exactly one-year break Audi will contest a race again for the first time in the USA: at the “Petit Le Mans” endurance classic at Road Atlanta (U.S. state of Georgia) on October 2, Audi Sport Team Joest will field two Audi R15 TDI cars driven by Dindo Capello/Tom Kristensen/Allan McNish and Marcel Fässler/André Lotterer/Benoît Treluyer.

Audi’s track record at the U.S. counterpart of the Le Mans 24 Hours is similarly impressive as at the French original: from 2000 to 2008, an Audi prototype crossed the finish line as the winner nine consecutive times. Last year, Audi was again headed for victory at Road Atlanta before the race had to be stopped due to extremely heavy rainfalls. Over the full 1,000-mile distance or maximum time of 10 hours the brand with the four rings has not been beaten at Road Atlanta to date.

The squad around Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich will give everything to keep it that way on the first October weekend. The two Audi R15 TDI cars (chassis numbers 202 and 203) were flown to the United States as early as last week in order to take advantage of a two-day testing opportunity on the demanding track at Road Atlanta on the weekend before the race. Audi Sport Team Joest’s main aim is to optimally set up the R15 plus with its new aerodynamics package for this circuit. The squad had successfully accomplished this at the inaugural round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) at Silverstone for the qualifying session when both Audi prototypes qualified for the front row.

For the race at Road Atlanta Dindo Capello will again join his regular Le Mans partners, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish. With five victories under his belt, the Italian is the most successful driver in “Petit Le Mans” history. McNish’s track record reflects four wins. Tom Kristensen last competed at Road Atlanta in 2002 and the “King of Le Mans” won the race in that year.

Marcel Fässler, André Lotterer and Benoît Treluyer will contest their third joint race for Audi after Spa-Francorchamps and Le Mans. Their commitment is also intended to help them gel even better with the Audi squad which is planned to remain unchanged for the 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans.
